Metrology Lead

The Metrology Lead will oversee and lead the metrology functions for Tube Fab Roman Engineering with abilities in GD&T and measurement science, data analysis/statistics/gage R&R, and problem solving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Personnel Responsibilities

  • Manage job request priorities for the metrology lab to ensure timely and accurate results to interested parties.
  • Oversee and/or perform the activities of the metrology lab team ensuring efficient workflow and completing deliverables for stakeholders in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.

Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and Continuous Improvement Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving the necessary operational procedures of the lab.
  • Responsible for oversight and/or performing part measurement and reporting, including First Piece / PPAP sample reporting and part/process capability studies.
  • Responsible for maintaining/updating existing programs as determined by Engineering or an Engineering Change Request.
  • Responsible for participating in geometry reviews and inspection report reviews as a dimensional metrologist; assist with Gage Design and dimensional proveout of tooling and processes.
  • Provide interpretation and guidance on geometric dimensioning and tolerance as pertains to dimensional metrology.
  • Responsible for working with stakeholders to resolve production quality issues relative to evaluating part quality and developing manufacturing process.
  • Responsible for writing, operating, consulting and troubleshooting dimensional metrology engineering programs while providing programming education for low to moderately complex manufactured parts, using appropriate tools and programming languages.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and improving procedures to maintain the quality lab and systems to ensure compliance to internal and international standards.
  • Responsible for overseeing and/or performing gage calibration and lab equipment maintenance per schedule verifying accuracy is maintained.
  • Responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving IT systems related to program transfer and measurement data to support engineering, quality management, and business needs.
  • Assist in the creation of the capital budget related to metrology.

  • Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions and injuries to supervisor.
  • Refrains from any unsafe act that might endanger themselves or a co-worker.
  • Uses all safety devices provided for protection.
  • Complies with existing policies.

Duties stated are not intended to be all inclusive and may require some temporary or miscellaneous work assignments as requested by their supervisor or other management.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to program and calibrate measurement equipment used in measuring fabricated metal tubing and assemblies.
  • Demonstrated skill with measurement system analysis (MSA) and statistical process control (SPC) .
  • Ability to utilize software packages such as Microsoft Office, Database, and Data Analytics (Minitab) for quality management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and facilitation skills with the demonstrated ability to influence others.
  • Methodical mindset needed to create and document planned and completed work.

EDUCATION + KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced knowledge of calibration and geometric & dimensional tolerance principles and application.
  • Knowledge of Safety, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, 14001 and VDA 6.3 Requirements.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging metrology products, tools and concepts. Relevant certifications a plus.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in a technical field preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Supervision experience preferred.
  • 3+ Years’ experience in quality engineering, metrology, or related technical field including demonstrated proficiency with metrology tools and techniques.
  • Project management experience including progress tracking and status communication to team and stakeholders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Safety glasses and earplugs required in designated areas.
  • Ability to grasp, feel, handle, bend at the waist.

Tool Room Technician

The Tool Room member is responsible for development of tooling and die for installation or building of machines for use in production. They are responsible for collaborating with the Computer Aided Design and Controls teams to ensure quality builds. They hold responsibility in conforming to and improvement of Tool Room standards.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Collaborate to problem-solve and take corrective action if necessary.
  • Ability to interpret blue prints and measuring devices.
  • Responsible for planning and executing the sequence to build assigned project.
  • Responsible for conformance to and improvement of Tool room standards.
  • Responsible for performing 5S housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations- ISO 14001/TS 16949.

Skills required:

  • Excellent time management.
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize tool building machinery.
  • Demonstrates ability to use precision measuring and gaging instruments.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrates basic algebra knowledge.
  • Completion of program at skilled-trades school or 2 years equivalent experience in a machine shop.
